Shetland fandom still isn't happening in the DW/LJ - verse, but it's roaring ahead on AO3. LOADS of new fics have come out since the Autumn and good old Yuletide gave it a boost too.

52 Duncan/Jimmy fics!
Other pairings too!
Even a Duncan/Jimmy/Sandy 3-way!
New authors and new fics from established ones!

And (though I'm sceptical) the filming of series 6 may be a few weeks away. I'm as excited by the prospect of new screencaps on Tumblr as I am about the canon at this stage.

Yuletide 2019 is happening and there are loads of Shetland requests this year! As of today, three Yuletide fics have gone up at AO3 - all Duncan/Jimmy and omg. Authors to be revealed on 1 January.

Yes, it's RPF/S. Not actually porn though. As yet. I've posted it to celebrate the announcement of two new Shetland series on the way starting next year. So excited. Loads more plot bunnies, gifs and fan vids to look forward to. And the canon as well of course.

Here's an excerpt from the fic:

Lucy came into the kitchen and found her husband looking expectant.

‘You know that sexual tension you like in Shetland ?’ He asked.

‘Yes.’ She said with a grin and a rising tone bordering on lascivious.

Mark waved a hand in the direction of his laptop screen. ‘You’ll enjoy series 6.’

In the Mark Bonnar weather report, it seems he's not actually on telly at the moment but was on Radio 4 this morning in a new radio play with his wife Lucy Gaskell: A History of Paper

I'll admit now I was 99% certain there would be no more Shetland TV canon. Dougie Henshall did this cheeky bit of tweeting the other day and it was a nice surprise to see hundreds of folks responding they hoped it would be new Shetland, but I expected the announcement to be unrelated.

This community is now listed over at the mystery_mansion multifandom fictional detective community. Hello to anyone who finds us via that. Maybe it's the universe celebrating Henshall & Bonnar's birthday - this has I think been the most action-filled week of Jimmy/Duncan and indeed Shetland fics over at AO3. This has included:

Bonnar weather update: Guilt on BBC2/BBC Scotland was AMAZING.

General Election / Twitter update: Not yet clear the extent to which Henshall is supporting the SNP, but Bonnar solidly Labour 🌹

There are currently THREE Duncan/Jimmy WIPs on AO3 with at least two being updated regularly.

In the Mark Bonnar Weather Report - he's currently on only the one programme currently being broadcast - Guilt which is on BBC Scotland on Thursdays and Wednesdays on BBC2. It's one episode per week on iPlayer. Is it ace and is Bonnar excellent? Yes and yes natch.

Canon help (Duncan/Jimmy)

I do have the box set on order now so will plonk myself down in front of it for a marathon at some point very soon but is there anywhere, does anyone know, a breakdown of Duncan and Jimmy’s history?

I have a few plot bunnies that have started to pop up and if I do write anything it struck me that having some canon backstory for these two might help. I’ve watched the show but only in bits and drabs over the last 5 years and not with any ear for taking note. It’s only become a serious pairing for me in the last month or so. I’m more for tv canon than book canon as I’m aware that the tv series does vary in many ways from the book and I may end up ‘tweaking’ bits for my own head canon anyway but a starting place is always a good thing!

I’m going to probably post on tumblr as well but if anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated.
